Some children in Namseling did not look away.

The call came from a group of children in Namseling. A car had hit a small dog and kept driving, and the children stayed with him while one of them ran to find help. By the time we reached him, his back legs were crushed beyond saving.

We carried him in and began the work. Marianne amputated both rear legs. Surgery was performed for two hernias — one inguinal, one diaphragmatic. For weeks afterward, he could not move on his own, and he was in significant pain.

That was a year ago. Today, Tenzin spends his days outside in the sun with the other rescue dogs. His closest companion is Skippy, who lost both front legs in an accident and learned to walk on his back legs. Tenzin moves a little more confidently each week.

The children in Namseling did the most important thing: they did not look away. The rest was ours to do.
