Shelter Care

$25/month = feeds one animal

$50/month = shelter care for one animal

$75/month = medication and nursing for a sick animal

Emergency Veterinary Treatment

$30 = treatment for one small animal, such as a dog or a cat

$50 = treatment for wildlife, such as a macaque baby

$100 = treatment for a large animal, such as a yak or horse

Donor-Advised Funds

Donor-advised fund (DAF) grants to BARC are processed through our US partner organization, the Bhutan Foundation (a US 501(c)(3)), with "Bhutan Animal Rescue and Care" noted in the purpose or designation field. Popular DAF providers, including Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, and Vanguard Charitable, all work seamlessly with the Bhutan Foundation.

Qualified Charitable Distributions

US donors aged 70½ or older can make Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) directly from their IRA to the Bhutan Foundation, our US 501(c)(3) partner, with BARC designated as the beneficiary. The annual QCD limit is indexed for inflation ($111,000 per individual in 2026).

Operations include utilities, transport for rescues, and facility maintenance—no executive salaries. Board members serve without compensation.

Our financial practices are independently verified and meet the highest standards of nonprofit accountability. BARC has received a clean audit from the Royal Audit Authority of Bhutan every year since 2014.

Frequently asked questions

  • Any amount helps. As a guide: $30 covers medical care for a month; $75 provides food and housing for a month.

  • 100% of donations directly support the animals, as our founders personally cover all overhead expenses. In 2024, funds were allocated as follows: 34% to animal rescue and treatment staff; 29% to operations; 18.6% to equipment and vehicles; 11.6% to rescue vehicles; 6.8% other.

  • You can sponsor an individual animal who depends on BARC for survival, and your sponsorship will cover all of their food, housing, and medical needs for as long as they need us. Sponsoring creates a personal connection to our mission and provides essential support for animals with ongoing care needs.
