Sister Namgay’s Ongoing Care
Electric burns over thirty percent of her body.
Sister Namgay arrived at our gates as a young female macaque with electric burns covering 30 percent of her body. For nearly a year, she needed daily nursing care from our staff.
Somewhere in that year, she began watching the work and then participating in it. Today she feeds the puppies. She breaks up fights between younger animals. She has fostered orphans of every species that has come through our doors — monkeys, dogs, cats, mice, calves.
Kuensel, Bhutan’s national newspaper, featured her as the first simian nurse at BARC. The “Sister” in her name was given by the staff, who watched her earn it.
Treating burns covering a third of an animal’s body takes nearly a year of daily nursing care. Your donations are what allow us to commit to that timeline.
