Gutty was found dying in a gutter, which is where his name comes from. The staff needed something easy to remember, and the name has stayed with him.
He is quadriplegic. He cannot move his legs, and for a long time, he could not lift his head. After months of physical therapy, he can hold his head up and feed himself — both significant achievements for a dog in his condition.
He cannot scratch himself, so the staff scratches him. He cannot reposition himself, so they reposition him. The orphan puppies who pass through our shelter often curl up against his side to sleep, because he is warm and he does not move. He is one of the most petted dogs at our shelter.
